Neema (17) grew up in a community where talking about sexual and reproductive health was taboo. She had limited knowledge about her body, consent, or how to report abuse. When she experienced unwanted advances from an older man, she felt confused, scared, and unsure where to turn.
EEO’s Girls Health, Protection and Rights Project brought age-appropriate sessions on sexual and reproductive health, consent, gender equality, menstrual health, and safe reporting pathways into her school and community. Sessions involved girls, parents, teachers, and service providers, creating a supportive environment for learning.
Neema learned to identify unsafe situations, assert her boundaries, and seek help from trusted adults. She also learned how to access health and protection services if needed. She began sharing what she learned with her friends, challenging myths and encouraging them to speak up.
“Before, I didn’t know where to go for help. Now I know my rights and how to protect myself. I tell my friends they don’t have to stay silent.”— Neema, 17
