Who We Are

Rooted in the Community We Serve

We create pathways for learning, leadership, and sustainable transformation that enable individuals and communities in Homa Bay County to thrive.

Our Story

From a shared conviction to a registered organization

In many communities across Homa Bay County, girls and young people continue to face significant barriers. Many girls are at risk of dropping out of school due to poverty, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender discrimination. At the same time, many young people struggle with unemployment because they lack practical skills, capital, mentorship, and market linkages.

Determined to change this, a group of five passionate community members from Rachuonyo East Sub County came together in 2020 with a shared vision: to create opportunities for vulnerable girls and youth to learn, thrive, and lead. Using their own resources, they supported school dropouts, paid school fees, provided mentorship, and connected out-of-school youth to skills development.

As they engaged with girls, youth, parents, schools, and local leaders, they realised that educational barriers, unemployment, and social exclusion were deeply interconnected. That understanding inspired the establishment of Educate and Empower Organization, formally registered in 2022.

Today, EEO continues to demonstrate that when communities invest in the potential of girls and young people, challenges can be transformed into opportunities. We prioritise local ownership, strengthen community capacities, amplify local voices, and build partnerships that create sustainable impact long after direct interventions end.

Our Team

Governance and Locally Rooted Delivery Team

Our governance structure combines strong oversight with deep community connections. A dedicated Board of Directors provides strategic direction, accountability, and governance oversight, ensuring that EEO remains focused on its mission and long-term impact. The Board is supported by an Advisory Board comprising professionals and development practitioners who offer technical guidance, mentorship, and expertise in key areas of our work including fundraising. On the ground, a committed management team and volunteers lead the day-to-day implementation of programs, working closely with schools, families, community leaders, and local partners. This locally rooted approach enables us to respond effectively to community needs, deliver impactful programs, and ensure that the voices of the people we serve remain at the centre of everything we do.

Who We Work With

Our work is made possible through strong partnerships with schools, health facilities, community leaders, administrators, local organizations, international community and volunteer networks. By working together, we are able to reach more vulnerable girls, youth, and families, strengthen community ownership, and create lasting, sustainable change across the communities we serve. Partnership with EEO creates opportunities to achieve greater impact by reaching more beneficiaries and delivering measurable, lasting change. Through our deep community knowledge and trusted grassroots networks, partners gain valuable local expertise that strengthens program design and implementation. By collaborating on grant applications, fundraising initiatives, and co-proposal development, we can mobilize additional resources and expand opportunities for the communities we serve. Partnerships also combine diverse skills, experiences, and resources to enhance project delivery, increase visibility, and build meaningful strategic relationships. Most importantly, working together enables us to develop sustainable, community-led solutions that address local challenges and create positive change that endures for generations.
